Some of the biggest questions people have about oil shale concern the environment.
- Is there enough water available?
- What are the byproducts?
- What kind of surface disturbance will occur?
- How much energy is needed to produce the resource?
- Will CO2 be an issue?
These are all very legitimate questions. Previous technologies to produce oil shale in the 1960s, 1970s, and before would not be considered today because of their impact on the environment.
Thankfully, much has changed since then. Technologies being developed today are making major strides in environmental protection.
